What to look for in a teleprompter app
These apps differ on five things:
- Who sets the pace: your voice, a fixed scroll speed, or both.
- Whether speech recognition runs on the phone or sends audio to a server.
- Whether scripts live in a cloud account or in a folder you control.
- What you pay for: a subscription, a one-time unlock, or nothing.
- Whether it records video, and where the recording is saved.

Questions about choosing a teleprompter app
- What is the best teleprompter app for iPhone?
- It depends on the job. If you read alone and want your voice to set the pace, Atrio's on-device voice follow is made for that. If you also want editing and captions in the same app, BigVU covers that.
- Is there a free teleprompter app for iPhone?
- Every app on this list is free to download. In Atrio, autoplay and manual scroll are always free, and voice follow is free for your first 3 sessions.
- Which teleprompter apps use voice control?
- Atrio, PromptSmart, and Teleprompter.com pace the script to your voice on iPhone. Check each App Store listing for how their voice features are priced.
- Do these apps work offline?
- Atrio does, once your scripts are on the phone, because speech recognition runs on the device. PromptSmart and Teleprompter.com say on their listings that they work offline too.
